Menopause on Trial: Evaluating Drugs That Cause Vaginal Dryness

a chart that evaluates drugs that may cause vaginal dryness

There are many facts and myths circulating about various drugs — antihistamines, antidepressants, cancer treatments — and vulvar and vaginal dryness, pain, and discomfort.

We looked at the research and came up with a way to help women assess the strength of the facts supporting various claims. On the chart above:

  • Where the research is conclusive, we have labeled it a fact.
  • Where the evidence points to a drug both causing the problem and solving it, we have called it a hung jury.
  • Where there is just not enough evidence, we have said so.

We also evaluated the recommendations for Pap smears and pelvic exams. See what we found.
